HSOTC Hosts Five-Week County Youth Program!

Justice SAR DogsAt the request of Cinnamon Rigmaiden of the Tuolumne County Probation Department, the HSOTC hosted a five week program for teens who were on probation.

The class was taught by Joe Riva, retired police officer/K9 handler, and dog trainer. The first class was an introduction by Joe of dog care and responsibilities of ownership plus lots of tips on grooming and keeping dogs happy and healthy.

The class would not have been a success without the following persons and groups:

The Sierra Tuolumne Kennel Club and members Karen Pursley and K9s Cooper and Ellie; JoAnn Gritz and K9s Bennington and Lucy; Ree Anderson and K9s Koda and Peanut, and club member Marie Tiraschi.

Chris Lusardi and her adopted shelter dog Chewie and Martha Johnson and her therapy dog, Demo.

Calaveras County Search and Rescue K9 Team Robyn Berwick and her K9s Taz and Jackson.

Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office employees Deputy Tim Wertz and K9 Justice and Sgt. Oliver and Sgt. Benson for helping coordinate the presentation.

Without members of the community stepping forward like these wonderful people this class for the Juvenile Probation Department would not have been possible.

Thank you to all these selfless people and their amazing dogs. We learn each and every day how much dogs enrich our lives and give us so much love and acceptance.
